OH WINTER! speaks about our society’s compelling need to stop looking away when the cold winter creeps into the bones of our homeless bretheren. It is not snow or ice that lacerates the skin and hearts of those most in need, but the cold indifference of those who pass by without even noticing them. This piece of music is a call to open our souls and allow us to connect with our neighbor who is there, right by our side and who needs us today.
Recognize that it is time for awareness, that no one is saved alone in this world; no one can be entirely happy without the fulfillment and happiness of those around us. We all are, to some extent, responsible for the spread of human warmth. It is our task – and ultimately our happiness – to become the ember in our brother’s hearth.
Dedicated to Santiago Veros, who came into my life almost as a son, stayed as a friend, and every day encourages me as a mentor.
