DÁRSENA SUR – II – “LA BOCA”
for Symphony Orchestra
Duration: 4 minutes
This piece combines the Bachian counterpoint with one of the most typical rhythms of Argentine tango: the milonga –a very danceable style par excellence in tango. The challenge was to combine contemporary and personal harmonies with the most popular sounds of my country.
Let me tell you more about LA BOCA: the neighborhood, the people, the port, the history of the city, the “porteñity”, all this is born at the corners of the colorful and unique district of “La Boca”. This was where emigrants from around the world found asylum, work, shelter and a new life many years ago. Remaining unalterable for the porteños over the years, “La Boca” changes colors in the gaze of each passerby at different times of the day.
The movement sounds through various textures: from the most contrapuntal to homophonic, passing through melody & accompaniment, mixed with orchestral colors and harmonies that span from the seventeenth to the twenty-first century. Providing the opportunity to be surprised by the new, while perceiving the constant allusion to the historical.
Instrumentation: 2 – 2 – 2 – 2 ; 4 – 2 – 3 – 1 ; timp + 4, strings
